I was born in Cleveland, Ohio and still live in the area. Doo-Wop has always been my favorite style of music. During my high school and college days, I liked the music that was popular at that time. As I got into my 30’s, however, I returned to the music I grew up on, and rarely listen to anything else.
Prior to becoming a DJ on the DooWop Cafe, I selected the name JoeyC (based on my real name) to use in the chat room. When I decided to DJ, I wanted to honor a very close friend of mine who passed away in 2002. Tony DiTullio was a DJ on a local college station for over 25 years, playing doo-wop and other songs from the 50’s and 60’s. On-air, Tony used the name B.R. Anthony. To remember my friend who taught me so much about the music, I created an acronym, BRAD, to stand for B.R. Anthony Dedication.
While I love and collect all the phases and styles of doo-wop, my favorite is what is commonly referred to as the NY White Group sound --- Dion and the Belmonts, Elegants, Mystics, etc. I am also a very big fan of, and friends with, a number of the contemporary European doo-wop groups --- Roomates, Chaperals, Crystalairs, Earth Angels, Fabulous Flops, and I Love You Sos. It is through these groups and others that new, younger listeners are being attracted to doo-wop and keeping this music alive!
