Andrew
tells us:
"I am a product of the mid-west, born and raised in Wisconsin. My
early influences were the music I heard in the home, mostly big band,
dixieland, and vocal groups like the Andrews Sisters, Mills Brothers,
etc. I developed a love for music and learned to play several
instruments while in high school.
Though I always wanted to be a professional musician, I instead became
a machinist simply to put "food on the table". My first exposure to
Doowop came when i was a teen. Seems the powers to be banned most of
the music, called it "Race music". So as a teen, when I went out on a
date, I would get into the car, drive to Barker Road (the local
unauthorized drag strip), take a few runs down the strip with the other
guys, pick up the sweetie and head into town to catch a set or two at
one of the local jazz clubs. Then off to the highest point we could
find, pull up the antenna and tune into the Chicago stations.
The
love of singing quickly followed. Seemed like I was singing everywhere
I went. I found out that when you sing at work the boss stays away. But
it was nice when some of the other guys would stop on by and join in.
After retiring a couple of years ago I was playing on the computer and
found the Doowop Cafe. Thought I'd died and gone to heaven. Been here
ever since."
