Born in Pittsburgh Pa. 3/15/47, Jim graduated from Perry High School in Pittsburgh 1965.

He joined the United States Coast Guard in 1966 and did a tour of Vietnam with the Coast Guard in 1967 and as a 19 year old, he enjoyed playing his doowop records aboard the USCGC Barataria while on active duty in the South China Sea. 

After discharge in 1970, he got a job driving transit buses in Pittsburgh. While driving for the transit company, he went back into the Coast Guard Reserves in 1981. Later, he retired from the bus company in 1994.  Jim is still in the Coast Guard Reserves where he holds the rank of Chief Petty Officer. Thus the nickname "saltyoldcoastie".


 

Jim raised three sons, all grown and on their own.  He has three granddaughters .. Cailey, Madison, and Alyssa, as well as two grandsons ...Aidan and Luke.   Now, Jim drives tour coaches as a semi-retired job for Coach USA out of Pittsburgh. Thus, he gets to many areas of the country and Canada.
