If you grew
up in Philadelphia then there’s no need to explain what a Bunyip is (circled).
And if you didn’t, just ask Frank and he’ll be happy to tell you. Frank and
three of his best buddies formed a group called the Tydes in 1964 and the
group became a fixture on the street corners of South-West Philly for 3 years.
Members of the Tydes were Johnny Sykes (bass/baritone), Tom (Tip) White (2nd
tenor/lead) and Ray Hansell (lead) with Frank singing 1st tenor and lead.
“We cut demos but never made it to vinyl. There were too many distractions
like work, girls and Vietnam.” he explains.
Today Frank lives in the Midwest (misses the east coast bigtime!) with his
wife Mary and son Rocco. He has two more sons (Frank & Al) that live
back East and has 3 grandchildren.
