Mitch is in his late 50s and has listened to music since he was 7
years old when he grew up in MIami. His parents used to be very upset
when he started listening to "strange" radio stations from New York,
Philadelphia, Detroit, etc. Many of those stations were all black and
many of those songs were unheard of since the local rock stations -WQAM
and WFUN refused to play most of them. Mitch's father would switch the
radio station to a more subdued easy listening format playing the likes
of the Mills Brothers, Frank Sinatra, and Rosemary Clooney. Mitch
enjoyed those too. Here at the doowop cafe he brings MUSIC THE WAY IT
USED TO BE .
Mitch has lived for last 30+ years in the Charleston, South Carolina
and has worked as a school teacher and administrator. He has worked
part time as a country music dj on Clear Channel's WEZL and middle of
the road disc jockey at several local stations. However his first love
is the music he plays on the doo wop cafe. Oh and dont forget to add a
little taste of Carolina beach music to the blend too.
Mitch feels that today's radio formats are terrible and allow no
flexibility for the announcer or programming. He suggests
listening to recordings of old time djs from the 50s and
60s.............now that was radio!!!!!!!
Mitch plays a careful blending of all the trends in music which took
place during the 50s and early 60s (pre-1964)- with an overweighting of
doowop music. On occasion he will play something seemingly unusual out
of those "time areas" if the song "seems to fit" the 50s-60s scenario.
